Consultation Topic & Provider

General Information

  • The Chinese Help Desk is operated by the University Grants Committee (UGC) funds, therefore CHD is available for students of HKU’s UGC-funded programmes only (undergraduate, research postgraduate (full-time MPhil/PhD) and government-funded taught masters). 
  • If you are a student of a self-financed Taught Postgraduate Programmes (taught master's degree programmes), CHD is not able to serve you and your booking will be cancelled/your consultation session will be terminated even if you and your advisor/peer-consultant have been present in the venue.​

General Information:

  • The 1:1 consultation/ workshops/ study group will be provided in face-to-face mode only; online mode through Zoom will NOT be provided.
  • Each 1:1 consultation lasts for 30 minutes (at the maximum) (25 mins consultation + 5 mins online survey)
  • A workshop may last for 60 minutes or 120 minutes, and workshop of low enrolments might be subject to cancellation. We will confirm with you by email with details (eg. venue) 1-2 day prior to the workshop 
  • Your will receive a survey link/QR code after the confirmation email and please refer to the confirmation email or check the below venue of each advisor/ peer-consultant.
  • If you would like to cancel the booking, please (1) cancel your appointment through the appointment link of the confirmation email or (2) inform Chinese Language Centre (clcchd@hku.hk) at least 24 hours before your consultation by email.

Point to note


  • You must use your OWN University ID to book the CHD 1:1 service. You will be asked to show your HKU ID card when you attend consultations. No consultation will be delivered if the HKU ID of attendee and booker do not match.
  • Feedback will not be given to students who fail to attend their booked consultation
  • Please place your booking at least one working day (Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays) prior to the consultation
  • Please send documents that you would like to discuss during the consultation, if any, to the consultation teacher at least one working day (Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays) prior to the consultation.


Personal Information Collection Statement

This is a statement to inform you of your rights under the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance.

Personal data provided by you will be used by Chinese Language Centre (CLC), School of Chinese (SoC) for the purposes of handling your registration as a participant of CLC seminars/ workshops/ programmes/ events or for the purposes as described in the data collection form.

Personal data will be kept confidential and handled by SoC staff members. The data may also be used for the compilation of statistics on the number and nature of CLC seminars/ workshops/ programmes/ events. The outcome of the resulting statistics will not be in a form that will identify your registration and any of your personal data.

Applications for access to and correction of personal data should be made in writing and on payment of a fee if necessary. Such applications as well as requests for information should be addressed to School of Chinese’s Personal Data Protection Coordinator by email to chinese@hku.hk.
